We Have A New Program Director

There is a lot to talk about as we get ready for the 2011/12 season.

The big news is that Snow Valley Racing is very pleased to welcome the newest addition to our team – Michael Clarke.  Mike is our new Program Director who takes over from Chad shortly after registration in September.  But Mike hasn’t been waiting until then to join SVR.  He met up with the team at Mt. Hood and then he and his wife, Maria, moved from Nelson BC to Edmonton earlier this month.  The whole purpose is to make the transition as smooth as possible for not only Michael, Maria and Chad but for the SVR families as well.  As one of the largest ski clubs in western Canada, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that we might not see – even in the summer.  If those tasks are handled well – then the season is smooth and that’s the goal of Chad, Mike and your Board of Directors.  Chad and Mike have been busy hiring coaches and I’m so pleased that so many of our great coaches are returning for another season.

Now a bit about Michael.  We are very fortunate to be able to attract as experienced coach as Mike.  He has years of ski racing experience – at the local/provincial level in BC but also at the National level as head coach for Alpine Canada’s Para Ski Team.  Most recently he was the FIS coach for the Red Mountain Racers.  He holds numerous skiing and coaching certifications including the very demanding certification of CSCF Level 4 Elite Para.  Mike’s vast experience in the ski community is only exceeded by his reputation of coaching and leadership excellence.  Please be sure to introduce yourself at registration to Mike and add your welcome to our great city and great ski club.

Now for those important dates!

Dryland Training Commences :   September  6th at Snow Valley 6-8pm
Registration :  September 13,14, & 15 6-8 pm at Snow Valley
Annual General Meeting :  September 29th 6:30-8:30 pm at Snow Valley
Snow Valley Ski Swap :  October 15 & 16
Annual Fundraising Dinner and Silent Auction :  Friday October 28  at Snow Valley

We’ll have more important dates that affect you and your racers in the months ahead, including the race calendar.  But one that I would ask you to put in your calendar now is Snow Valley Racing’s very own Casino!  It’s February 12th & 13th, 2012.  This is absolutely tremendous news that we have been granted our own casino.  Special thanks goes to Kyle Willis for his determination to securing our own casino.  The funds derived from it will go directly to ensuring the best coaching, racing development and club operations possible.  It also helps to keep the costs incurred by the families to enjoy this great sport as low as possible.  But without you, as volunteers for the casino, we aren’t able to enjoy the rewards.

Message from the Board

Chad Mansell, our valued Program Director, has decided that it is time to turn his attention to other activities and has submitted his resignation to the Board.  It was with sadness that the Board accepted Chad's resignation. Chad is and will always be a valued member of the Snow Valley Racing Club.

His contributions over the many years are, quite frankly, too numerous to list.  But perhaps this most recent season best demonstrates Chad's skills, leadership and devotion.  The Club continues to improve its financial health and continues to exceed all expectations in the area of administration and finance.  Our coaches are the envy of other clubs.  The on-hill performance of our athletes continues to excel with notable performances by K1 and K2 athletes at the Provincial and National levels.  Our programs run at or close to capacity and thanks to Chad's hard work, many of our racers continue in our programs for years.

And while Chad is moving on, he leaves Snow Valley Racing in a great position for the 2011-2012 season with our nearly launch FIS program; to place our club in the unique position of being able to offer racing programs for all ages.

The Board has established a search committee for Chad's replacement.  And true to Chad's character, he has given the Board the utmost in flexibility in terms of timing his departure to ensure the smoothest of transitions.
I hope that you will join us at the May 7th season wrap-up BBQ and take the opportunity to wish Chad all the best in his future endeavours.

Yours truly,
Doug Airey
Alpine Chair
